Location: Goldkante Bochum, Alte Hattinger Straße 22, Bochum
Format: Hybrid (on-site & live-streamed online)
The Scholars at Risk Advocacy Seminar at Ruhr University Bochum (Bochum4SAR) will be hosting an evening dedicated to the freedom of Niloufar Bayani and all wrongfully imprisoned scholars on September 24. At the event, the advocacy activities of Bochum4SAR will be presented along with poems, music and talks about the human right situation in Iran. Amnesty International Bochum has the pleasure to contribute a talk about the work of Amnesty International on imprisoned scholars and academic freedom. The event is a continuation of the cooperation between Amnesty Bochum and Bochum4SAR, which has already resulted in a Joint Statement asking for immediate release of Ahmadreza Djalali and Niloufar Bayani.
Scholars at Risk Bochum writes in their invitation:
This solidarity event for the release and justice of Iranian conservationist Ms. Niloufar Bayani and all wrongfully imprisoned academics is one of various advocacy activities implemented by a group of international students taking part in the Scholars at Risk advocacy seminar in the Summer Semester 2021 at Ruhr University Bochum. In this concluding/final event, the students, distinguished guests and artists would like to express solidarity with these imprisoned scholars and raise their voices for the protection and promotion of academic freedom and human rights globally. Notably, this event coincides with the Global Climate Strike to remind the international community that we urgently need nature conservationists like Ms. Niloufar Bayani freed when natural and human-induced catastrophes are wreaking havoc across the world. We want to remind everyone that we need free science and scientists more than ever for a better, sustainable future.
